general mish mash of juggling around Brighton JUN/JUL 2023

The Void - - Наверх

(I skim-watched.) Good to see the juggling scene still alive and kicking in Brighton. Cheers!

Will there be a meeting 09JAN2017 ? I have been given `high command' but cannot edit the
the shutdown dates to make it anything other than starting on 16JAN2017.

Orinoco - - Наверх

The next meeting date is automatically progressed forward when necessary taking into account specified shutdown dates that are in place at the time, at present I don't recalculate the next meeting date backwards if a shutdown date is then deleted. I will have a look at that as soon as I can. In the meantime you can reset the next meeting date by editing the club. Use the club listing to indicate when you do meet, & shutdown dates to indicate when you don't.

This club will NOT be meeting for the next two Mondays (13JUL29015 & 20JUL2015)

but will be back to every Monday at 20:00 hours after that.

Parking is usually very easy here and the parking restrictions end at 20:00.

What song would you like to see a juggling act themed around, which you've never seen a juggling act themed around - and what form would the act take?

For me it would have to be Rick Wakeman:
https://youtu.be/fQ8DWJfbHJM

I'm picturing an ensemble piece with a central character in a business suit pulling off lots of studly-but-casual tricks (hat, cigar, umbrealla, Bobby Mays matchbox trick etc) while surrounded by poi swingers.

It's Him - - Наверх

I'd like someone to use Grace Kelly by Mika but that someone would be me if I can find the right prop for the act.

I would also like to see me finally video my random yellow act to Dylan's Mellow Yellow but still trying to get a couple of tricks.

Hi Nigel, I saw your Mum today. She recognised me and said "Hi" without me prompting her.

She gave me a slice of chocolate cake, although I did have to wait while she finished icing it. It was very tasty!

It's Him - - Наверх

I can also heartily recommend her flapjacks, victoria sponge and scones. The toasted teacakes however come from Tesco so I don't recommend them and as I don't like coffee I can't comment about the coffee cake.

For everyone else who isn't LP or myself. My mum runs Milton Keynes Museum tearoom (voluntarily) and so can normally be found serving there. She makes most of the cakes herself along with the soup and whatever else she feels like making that day (so e.g. the jams that are often on sale).

Why LP would be at that museum has a lot to do with their exhibition of old phones which is just one of the areas of exhibits and definitely more interesting than the shed full of old lawnmowers.

I was pleasantly surprised by the fairground organ festival which was on there this weekend as well, which I wasn't expecting but which I thoroughly enjoyed.

People who are enthusiastic about anything slightly outside of mainstream interests of TV/Sport/Pop Music are interesting people indeed!

mtb - - Наверх

I have also noticed this.

Orinoco - - Наверх

I'm surprised I haven't seen any adagio acts to Skeletons or Little shadows by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs yet.

I think Epic by Faith No More has a good rhythm & structure for a cigar box routine but I can't think of anyone with a style epic enough to match.

barnesy - - Наверх

For cigar box, I've never got round to working out a routine (or being good enough) to use this: https://youtu.be/-vk_GjINYr8

barnesy - - Наверх

Looking at the picture used for that video, she seems to have just dropped her boxes. Or is she mid pirouette?

barnesy - - Наверх

and replying to myself again, I've just spotted John Gilkey among the related videos: https://youtu.be/tJFl_48EGCg

Still feels more like a cigar box tune to me though.

Little Paul - - Наверх

when I played your first link, I thought "I'm sure I've seen an act to that" although I had it pegged as someone like Stickleback Plasticus rather than John Gilkey - although now I've watched videos of both I'm convinced I was wrong

Colin E. - - Наверх

I love that routine - one of my favourites. Although I preferred the version he did on the IJA stage, without all the odd CDS makeup and costumes.

Orinoco - - Наверх

My first thought was that she was spinning a hula hoop.

Roflcopter - - Наверх

the twisted nerve whistling song

The Void - - Наверх

When I wanted to see a routine to "Nobody Takes Me Seriously" by Split Enz, I made one. I've also got a shaker cup video all edited in my head to a particular tune. One day I may get around to filming it.

Little Paul - - Наверх

Hmm. Shaker cups....

"Bring the Noise" - Anthrax/Public Enemy?
"Ringing In My Ears" - Skober?
"Shut The Fuck Up!!" - Kid Ink feat. Pries?

The Void - - Наверх

Nope.

robin48gx - - Наверх

I think that would work. He needs a desk and a computer too, tat somehow become props

Ist night of sussex Uni at Mandella hall tonight.

Mïark - - Наверх

I guess you are referring to University of Sussex Circus Society.

peterbone - - Наверх

#USCS. Yes, it's been a long time since we didn't have the hall last term. It was good to be back. Quite a few new people - lets hope they stay for more than the first week. I taught one person to juggle 3 balls and another to pass.

varkor - - Наверх

Imagine being taught to juggle by Peter Bone himself...

mtb - - Наверх

I know, right?

Mandella Hall? Is that as in Nelson Mandela or is this just my immediate instinct as a South African?

robin48gx - - Наверх

I think it was called "the Old refectory" in the late 1970's but was renamed after Nelson Mandela
by the students union some time after that

Little Paul - - Наверх

was it not named after the block of flats in only fools and horses then?

pumpkineater23 - - Наверх

I was interested to know where the saying, 'Only fools and horses work' came from.

According to Wikipedia:

Why do only fools and horses work? (for a living), had its origins in 19th-century American vaudeville.
