how would one curve the template to make the 4 panel looks like its a helicopter top view

Not sure I understand your question though. Do you just want the 4 seams between the segments to meet in a cross like the rotors of a helicopter? If so the templates in the first file will create balls that look like the ones pictured in the second link. Because you mention 'curving the template' the only other thing I think you could possibly want is the seams to meet in a cross but all curve in the same direction to create a spiral effect. If so you would need a scimitar/crescent moon shape. & a more talented mathematician than I to work out the curves!
I hate to say it, but trial and error is often the way to go with juggling patterns. Try to work it out mathematically and you'll most likely fail to take into account all the variables such as stretch in the fabric. I would start with the basic pattern and then trace over it a warped version (either by hand or using graphics software), then try it and modify your pattern based on the result. Either that or contact the person who made the balls in the photo.
